Download the template
Download the Search Visibility Measurement Template as CSV.
The template is an original Gadzooks Solutions operating resource. It is designed to keep platform observations, implementation records, business outcomes, and limitations in one reviewable format without collapsing them into a proprietary score.
What the template measures
The file supports recurring observations across:
- Google Search and Google AI experiences
- Bing Search, Copilot, and supported AI Performance reporting
- ChatGPT and other answer systems
- Apple App Store and Google Play
- Analytics, CRM, product, and revenue systems
Each row represents one dated observation or review unit. A row can describe a query group, a stable AI prompt, a cited URL, a store market, a landing-page cohort, or another clearly defined measurement unit.
Field guide
| Field | Use | | --- | --- | | Review date | Preserve when the observation was made | | Surface | Identify the platform or reporting system | | Market | Record country, language, or store market | | Query or topic | Keep the observed question or demand group | | Landing or cited URL | Identify the page connected to the event | | Impressions | Record platform-reported visibility where available | | Citations | Record observed or platform-reported citations | | Clicks | Keep visits separate from mentions and citations | | Qualified actions | Record signups, calls, demos, installs, or purchases | | Revenue signal | Add pipeline or revenue only where the system supports it | | Evidence source | Link or name the report, export, screenshot, or query set | | Change shipped | State the implementation linked to the review | | Limitation | Record missing data, attribution gaps, or uncertainty | | Next decision | Make the row useful to an operator | | Owner | Identify who must act or review |
Blank values are acceptable when a surface does not expose a metric. Do not replace missing data with zero unless the reporting system confirms a true zero.
Keep unlike signals separate
An impression is not a citation. A citation is not a click. A click is not a qualified action. A qualified action is not necessarily revenue.
Google Search Console performance reporting provides search-specific query, page, country, device, impression, click, and position data. Bing AI Performance provides a separate view of citations, cited pages, and grounding queries for supported Bing AI experiences.
Keep source-specific definitions in a data dictionary. Do not compare or add metrics simply because they share a similar label.
Establish a baseline
Choose a stable pre-change period that reflects normal operations. Record:
- The date range
- Markets and devices
- Included page groups
- Valuable actions
- Known campaigns or launches
- Tracking and consent changes
- Seasonality
- Data gaps
For AI answer checks, preserve the exact prompt, surface, model where known, date, market, mention context, and cited sources. A stable core prompt set is more useful for trend review than constantly changing prompts.
Connect changes to acceptance criteria
The change_shipped field should name a specific release or editorial update. Link it to an issue, commit, release note, or content review where possible.
The next_decision field prevents reporting from ending with a chart. Examples include:
- Validate the canonical fix on the affected template
- Expand the successful listing test to the next market
- Correct an inaccurate entity fact at the primary source
- Consolidate two pages that still compete for one intent
- Hold the experiment until enough eligible traffic is available
Use a recurring review
A monthly review can summarize:
- Priority topic and page coverage
- Technical release validation
- AI mentions and citations on a stable question set
- Store visibility and conversion tests
- Qualified actions and revenue signals
- Data quality and attribution limitations
- Decisions completed and still open
Keep the raw rows. Summary dashboards should remain traceable to the evidence.
Limitations
The template does not guarantee rankings, indexing, citations, installs, leads, or revenue. It does not replace Search Console, analytics, CRM, store consoles, server logs, or approved privacy practices.
AI answer observations are incomplete, attribution can be limited, and platform definitions can change. The template is a transparent starting structure that should be adapted to the organization's actual systems and decisions.
